In the suspenseful drama FLASHBACK, a police detective has the special ability to get a “flash” of the image of a dead person’s soul when he touches their corpse or something they left behind. A series of unprecedented bizarre murders involving a half-melted corpse, a charred corpse, and so on occurs in modern-day Tokyo. Detective Ryoma investigates the crimes. He possesses a special ability nicknamed “flashback”, which allows him to see the residual thoughts of dead people. Ryoma is helped by Himiko, a brilliant scientist who should rightfully have been given the Nobel Prize that was usurped by her supervisor.
The two of them are assigned to HIDE, a secret crime division. Their assignment is to use his “flashback” ability and her cutting edge scientific intellect to solve mysterious serial killings.
However, Ryoma has a secret. If he doesn’t actually touch the physical clue seen in his flashback vision within 72 hours, he’ll die from a brain hemorrhage.
The relationship between Ryoma, a former archaeologist, and Himiko, who’s brilliant but has a communication disorder, is like oil and water at first. But as they solve cases together, they gradually accept one another.
However, at some point they discover shocking truths that seem to contradict history…
