Project Itoh, an author who died before his time—
We are going to live in the worlds that he created.
Keikaku (Project) Itoh (Keikaku means “Project” in Japanese) was born in Tokyo in 1974. In 2007, he debuted with “GENOCIDAL ORGAN” and took first prize in the Best SF of 2007 in SF magazine. His novel “HARMONY” won both the Seiun and Japan SF awards, and its English-language edition won the Philip K. Dick Award Special Citation. After a long battle with cancer, Project Itoh passed away in March 2009 at age 34.
Only the first 30 pages of Itoh’s next novel, “THE EMPIRE OF CORPSES”, were finished when he passed away, but that work was completed by his close colleague, Toh EnJoe.
“PROJECT ITOH” is a project that consists of theatrical anime adaptations for the three works.
Three production studios are on their individual project. Ever since Project Itoh made his debut as an author in 2007, everyone predicted his works would be adapted. Unfortunately, it didn’t happen during his lifetime, but at last, unique creative teams from the world of Japanese animation have come together to give his stories a unique presence.
